From the Airport
The safest and most convenient way of getting to your hotel is by taxi. Buy a ticket at one of the Taxi desks between ´Arrivals´ and the airport exit. It should cost around 200 pesos (+/- 10 euros). I find the company 'Excelencia' the cheapest.
Taxis
Taxis in Mexico City are cheap and plentiful, but it is not recommended that you catch them from the street. It is best to get Reception to order you one. They arrive very quickly. If you spek Spanish, you can order a taxi from 55660077 (add 55 if phoning from a mobile). The starting amount on the metre souldn't be more than 10-15 pesos.
If you insist on catching a taxi from the street, avoid the VW beetles and make sure that the starting amount on the metre is no more than 6-7 pesos.

Drinks / dinners
Wednesday - meet in the lobby of El Diplomatico at 8pm. Miguel will then transport you in a taxi convoy to 'La Antigua Santa Catarina', near the centre of Diego-and-Frida land (Coyoacan). If you want to join us later, here is the map nearly of the place. The square is Santa Catarina, a block to the right of the marker, spanned by Melchor Ocampo and San Francisco Sosa.
Thursday: After the last session, we go to the central square of Coyoacan, to a restaurant called 'Los Danzantes'. If you want to join us later, all taxi drivers know it. Map.
Friday: After the last session, there will be a reception at the house of Dr. Margarita Valdés, the head of our research project, and after that dinner in a nearby restaurant. This is all in Tlalpan, another old and quaint part of town.
Alternatives: If you are too sick of us, and want to go out on your own, the closest area to your hotel with many restaurants is San Angel. The really classy and pricey option is San Angel Inn (marker A on the map). Just ask reception to get you a taxi to San Angel Inn. Otherwise ask taxi to go to the centre of San Angel. This is South-East from marker A, where the little park is (spanned by Benito Juarez and Galvez). There are a few restaurants along the edges here; more along La Paz, between Insurgentes and Revolucion; and some in a little centre on the corner of La Paz and Revolucion. It's all very close together and a wonderfully pleasant walk. Map

The University
The University is massive by both European and US standards. There are ten free shuttle-lines servicing it. If you do not use our chauffeur and need to get to the Instituto, you can catch Ruta 10 from the Metrobus station 'CU' on the red line. Or you could catch a taxi.

Safety
One hears plenty of horror stories about the crime in Mexico nowadays. But neither your hotel, nor the university, nor the restaurants to which we will go are in dangerous areas. Mexicans are a friendly and relaxed people in general. Of course, one needs to be sensible - don't carry too much money around and flash your gold bling, don't walk late at night in areas which seem dubious, etc. - but then again one needs to be careful about those things in every country. So as long as you don't do the silly things you warn foreigners not to do in your country, you have nothing to be worried about.
Weather
Despite Mexico´s reputation for eternal sunshine and heat, be warned that Mexico City itself is at 2400 m above sea level. So yes, it´s hot during the day, but at night it´s quite nippy. And we won´t have quite come out of rainy season yet. Check weather.
